My favorite book of Rumi's poetry is Birdsong, translated by Coleman Barks. This poem holds simple truths about the power and gifts that come to us when we surrender to love: giving our hearts, perhaps losing our "minds."

The Way of Love

The way of love is not
a subtle argument.
The door there
is devastation.
Birds make great sky-circles
of their freedom.
How do they learn it?
They fall, and falling,
they're given wings.
